I received this as an ARC.Angels seem to be a topic that many people are really getting into reading about in the paranormal genre. Of course with angels comes their counterpart, demons. This book is full of both of them, but the primary focus is a love triangle of two angels and a human. Ilisha thought she was simply getting on train to go help her mother with her grandmother's funeral, but life has a funny way of not working the way we expect. When the train she is on crashes and she somehow survives, she finds that everything she once knew has changed. She discovers a world where everyone has a guardian angel, but those angels can abandon you if you don't live up to their standards. Her angel has been deeply in love with her her entire existence and knows exactly what to say to win her heart. You would expect that from someone that has watched you your entire life. Being that she had never met Bram, her guardian, before, she had no idea what lies he might be telling her or what information he simply was leaving out. Her world turns even more crazy when Damon, another angel shows up to lay his claim on her. While trying to sort out her feelings for these two gorgeous men, she finds that a people are out to kill her. How can life get any more complicated? Well, it does. You'll have to read just to see exactly how crazy it really gets. I liked this story. I like some of Shadow Stephens's other books more, but she is a wonderful author and worth following.

The concept was fresh and exciting but I think this story would have done better as two parts. After a train wreck should have claimed her life, Ilisha Morrison finds herself on the wrong side of a Death Makers hit list and thrust into a world where she's confronted by Angels, Demons and the ultimate betrayal. Love and Deceit rule this story and as the heart breaking truth is revealed Ilisha is forced to make a choice. I liked this book but I really wanted to love it. The beginning was captivating as was the ending but the story from point A to point B though, just felt rushed.

The story moves way to fast (fast then even the normal I just met you I must have my way with you romance novels). The main character goes from getting drunk on a train to telling her life story to this magically delicous man who is perfect in every way that she just met on a train. Immediately they are in danger and he must save her asking her to trust him. She surrives the horrible thing that happened to her and then all of a sudden he is following her around and she is declaring her love/lust for him. She doesnt even really react to the horror that she witnessed and barely survived. Magically she is able to figure out whats going on with her phantom stalker with some good ole dail up internet and a mystically playing show on angels that is on. She figured out what he was before she even had any true interaction with him.
The story feels like it jerks around leaving huge gaps in the story that DO NOT help the pacing and flow of the story. Days and weeks go by and what occured during them just happens. I feel like the author just tried to cram way to much stuff into to few pages and took the LOVE AT FIRST sight/ Damsel in distress genre for granted slapping a fantasy romance classification on it to get people to read it. I am really glad I got this book for free through facebook because if i had paid four dollars for this book i would of been pissed!
Broken Butterflies was not your average angels and demons, good verses evil, tale but an action packed love story with a twist that sucked you in from start to finish. I have never read anything like it. The action scenes were well done and the main characters unique and fastinating. What I think I enjoyed most was the human elements that were embodied in every character; angelic or not they all exhibited some type of greed, jealously, lust, love, hunger, self-righteousness, obsession, and pain. My four stars are for originality.
The reduction to four stars rather than five- for me there was an issue in the writing which sometimes lacked transitions from one scene to the next. One minute they just finished "blank" and bam....they are somewhere completely else doing their next thing without any segues. This was frequent enough that for me it disrupted the flow and I just had to shrug my shoulders and move on. There also was a... frenziness (if that is a word) in the delivery that would be off-putting to some. I think this author wrote a YA book before...so I wanted to mention that there is a lot of sex so this anything but YA. I would read more from this author.

Ilisha's life was turned upside down on the way to her grandmother's funeral. Victim of a deadly train crash, she walks away unscathed after a stranger stepped in to change her fate. Bram was her savior who seemed to have all the right words when she found herself lost.
Unfortunately Bram wasn't what he appeared to be. In fact, saving her was the worst thing that could have happened in her life. Cheating death denied Ilisha the destiny she was meant to have since the beginning of time. Bram's actions have left left running from a vicious demon who is intent on collecting her for the bounty placed on her. There is nowhere for her to hide.
Bram is also carrying around his share of secrets. While he professes his love he neglects to mention that she may not be his to have. Her heart has always been destined for someone else.
I liked this book. Intersting paranormal story apart from the usual. Ilisha does blossom as the story goes on seeming to find her inner warrior and becoming more decisive. Nice sophmore efffort from this author. I thought the butterfly symbolism was pretty interesting as well, just to throw that it
